"Locked keys in a running car at Butler Plaza during tailgate Saturday. Tech was there in 12 minutes, had the door open in 4. $75. Didn't even scratch the paint. Honest, fast, saved me from smashing a window."
Locked out of your car in Gainesville — what to do
First: don't break the window. We get calls weekly from people who smashed a passenger window to grab a key and then paid $400–$900 for glass replacement when a $65 lockout would have taken 15 minutes. If you're stuck, call us first.
Second: tell us exactly where you are. "Butler Town Center" is a 400,000 sq ft complex — we need the row and the color of the car. UF parking garages need the garage name and level. The faster we find you, the sooner the door is open.
Third: stay with the car. If it's hot and you have kids or pets inside, tell us on the phone and we treat it as an emergency — tech dispatches immediately with highest priority. Florida law allows breaking a window to rescue someone trapped in a hot car; we'd still prefer to open the lock in under 15 minutes.
We handle every car lockout situation in Alachua County:
- Keys locked inside the cabin — most common.
- Keys locked in the trunk — we open the trunk via the lock cylinder or through the cabin.
- Car running with keys inside — we don't shut off the engine, we open the door.
- Proximity key inside the car — common on BMW/Mercedes/Audi where the key fell between seats and the car auto-locked. We open without triggering anti-theft.
- Child or pet locked inside — emergency dispatch, no delays, highest priority.
- Keyfob dead battery, key in the car — we open and can replace fob battery on-site.
